Eric and I popped by Pure Dew water supplier today to talk about potential sponsorship with their water tanks as our module. They were interested with the idea but would like us to promote their upcoming new design instead of the old one. These 10L water tanks are made from PET which are 100% recyclable and are quite cool. We still need to do more testing but apparently we can get different opacity and colours if we want to since they have a moulding machine.
We are currently doing some light testing with UV lights and different strapping methods.
good news. while we poured out the tonic water mix out, we realised that the water tank still gives a teal glow under UV light, so I guess the chemical has combined with the water tanks. This means... less weight! Which also means that we could finally play with extruded modules!
Thanks to Seans ultra super crazy fast computer, our render time decreased from a potentially 50 hours to around 6-8 hours per render... these three are our final pages in which we're going to be presenting at the jury... GOOD LUCK! :)
We decided to use small 10L water tanks as our main modules. This creates a repetition of elements which we can adjust the properly inside to create different atmosphere at each level. We hope that it would create a interesting effect for the people experiencing our design.
STILL IN TESTING MODE... 3 more days till Jury... 3A1 drawings + 1:1 scale model.
After another design session, we decided (after consultation with our tutors) that LIGHT seems to be much more powerful than our 'ice' form. So we kept our ice design in the back of our head and moved forward with testing light. After research, we came across liquid that illuminates and glows itself under UV light- and these are some experiment testing that we did.
After the constructive criticism during design group, we realised that we were actually MISSING an element/material/object to recast. So we decided to put our pixelation idea beside us while we continue to test and evaluate materials which would be suitable for 'dematerialising'. We came across ICE. Since ice changes form over time as you all know (ice - water - gas), we decided to do some testing. Interestingly, we found out that the lighting through that ice creates a diffused lighting, which creates a pleasant feeling especially when white/blue light was going through. After, we decided to take that process of melting and manipulate to re-demonstrate that. This became our 1:20 model and computer model of 'cubes' which are supposingly hung on a frame work that decreases in density and size to demonstrate this process.
